Did you know that for 70.8% of Spaniards, beauty is naturalness? So says a study by L'Oréal

And so that 59.3% of Spaniards define beauty as an attitude? Well, where you see it, this is according to the First Study on the Perception of Beauty for Spaniards, prepared by Kuo Experience for L'Oréal Spain.

With this study, it has become clear that the concept of beauty is in the process of transformation towards more holistic concepts, is no longer perceived simply as external beauty, purely physical, but as a mix of circumstances That make us beautiful. Let's discover more data.

What is beauty for Spaniards?

As I said, this is a study conducted by Kuo Experience for L'Oréal Spain in which it is about understanding what beauty is in the 21st century. Thus, for the elaboration of this study, 1,009 Spaniards (507 women and 502 men) with ages between 18 and 75 years have been interviewed, establishing quotas according to sex, age and geographical area with the aim of obtaining a sample representative.

From the data obtained it is striking how 70.8% relate beauty to naturalness, followed by concepts such as attitude (59.3%), the subjectivity (58.3%), the multisensory (not only visual, but perceived through all the senses) (54.7%), culture (53.6%) and the inner beauty (50.5%). Come on, that beauty is no longer limited only to an image.

This reality is explained by the sociologist Pilar Parra, from Kuo Experience and director of the study with the following words:

Spain is leaving behind the superficial society of the 'outward' and begins to perceive a beauty with soul and soul. The 'deep-in' movement and inner beauty are gaining enormous strength in the present. It is a paradigm shift that has consolidated in 2017 but that began in 2008 with the crisis, when all our values, including those of beauty, began to transform. The traditional concept of beauty has become dated and is now related to something more comprehensive

But be careful, because there is more because if we ask the Spaniards where they find happiness, they also identify her with nature, besides that people associate beauty to the beautiful moments of their life. That place is followed by others in which we find beauty such as the family (26.6%), the art and culture (26.5%), the individual well-being and self-esteem (26.3%), the music (23.7%) and the friendship (22%), and finally the most physical aspects like the body (19.4%), the face (18.3%) and the sex (15.1%), which are relegated to the last positions.

Men and women have similar conceptions of beauty

But it is that by sex, the thing is also changing because, although women beauty takes on a more attitudinal and profound character, men have also stated that beauty is attitude (although in the masculine gender the purely physical does have more weight), giving rise to an approximation between the sexes. In fact, For the first time, the conception of beauty for men and women is very similar. Both attach great importance to the attitude (52.2% of men and 66.3% of women).

Beauty by ages

Obviously, by age segments there are also differences, qualifying young people aged 18 to 34 as more "explorers" where beauty is perceived as subjective and multisensory, and where sexuality becomes very important.

Then in the next segment the Crisis, in men the crisis of 40 and in women, a little more adult, with the empty nest syndrome. These are times when the former give priority to beauty in the body, while women to self-esteem and individual well-being.

In the event that there is no previous crisis moment, we are facing stabilized, where both sexes identify beauty in happiness, as well as in art.

And in the last age segment (men 55 to 75 years and women 65 to 75 years) we are the harmony, where everything becomes more spiritual, calm and tranquility.

The concept of beauty varies by region

In the case of Andalusian the naturalness and spontaneity (78.1% define it as something natural, identifying it with simple things)

Another curious fact is the study done by Autonomous Communities, which is very curious, and where Canaries and La Mancha stand out, as the Communities that most associate beauty with attraction (72% and 80%, respectively) and to the physical. On the contrary, in the case of Andalusian the naturalness and spontaneity (78.1% define it as something natural, identifying it with simple things) and in the case of Catalans, champion the movement of the new concept of beauty, betting more on the attitude (64.2%) to define it. Galicia, For example, it is the Community that says the most to perceive beauty through all the senses, with 70% of Galicians defining it as multisensory. In the case of Basque Country, perceive a more elaborate beauty, which requires time (68.6%), with less impulsivity. Y Aragon It is the place in Spain where beauty is most related to the tranquility and calm (63,8%).

The study also comes to reflect data in order to marital status, the sport that is practiced, and even as far as one reads, in this regard concluding that 71.4% of the people who they read fashion or beauty magazines considers that beauty is an attitude (vs. 57.6%), or that those that they practice yoga They lean more towards attraction.

It is certainly about a very interesting study which shows us how times change fortunately and evolution tends to be that beauty is not only physical, but that there are many other factors that intervene in making us more beautiful and that escape what merely captures sight.
